IM Darko Doric

I am an International Master from Croatia, born in 1984. I graduated at the Faculty of Economics in Rijeka, Croatia. After graduating I specialized in financial accounting and worked in two international companies.

I have been an active chess player for more than 25 years. My peak rating was 2520 and my top achievements were: Mediterranean champion 2007., twice winner of the Mitropa Cup as a member of the Croatian National team, Croatian Blitz champion in 2010., best first board (performance 2807) at the Slovenian National League 2011, first place at the Nova Gorica open (Slovenia) 2012. I have two GM norms.

I have over 10 years of training experience working in the range from chess begginers to masters by means of individual lessons (live and online).
For the last 20 months I am the trainer of the first team of the chess club "Sveta Nedelja" (Croatia). In that period the young players I trained had following results:

-3rd place on Croatian Cup finals

-chess club "Sveta Nedelja" entered from 2nd Croatian league into 1b, and the year later they entered into the highest Croatian chess league

FM Daniel Vojak - 1st place on Rabac open in 2022.

FM Lovro Novosel - National Champion (U-16) and European amateur champion in 2022.

Hristos Marinakis - Greek Champion under 20 in 2021.

Apart from being a player and a coach, I am also a national chess arbiter. For example I was an arbiter at the: 17th European Youth Championship 2007., 25th European Youth Chess Championship 2015, 2nd Easter open (Zurich, 2019) and other tournaments.

I am still an active player who can share many years of experience with my students. Apart from working on pure chess skills, I always do my best in motivating my students and adapting my courses to their earlier knowledge and playing style.

At the beggining of each training chapter I analyze the knowledge of my student in a certain field. My primary goals are to study the games of my student and to identify his/her mistakes and weaknesses in earlier games. Thenafter, I jointly make a teaching plan together with each of my students with the aim to correct these weaknesses. By problem solving I evaluate if my student has accepted the given instructions. Finally we proceed to the basic plans and ideas in the future openings that will be implemented by my students.
