Immediate Analysis After a Game.

Hey there,

It's going to sound lazy and silly but... Wouldn't it be neat if after a game, on the same page, without having to click on the analysis button, we could immediately analyze our game? For example, the game just ended, and the little Stockfish button appears so we can directly analyze the game and then move on if we choose to... What do you think?

Take care.
There is one potential problem: when the game finishes, the chat shown is still the players chat which is seen only by the two players. Once you switch to the analysis, you see spectators chat which is public and can be accessed (both seen and written to) by anyone who watched the game or opened it later.

I find this quite convenient as sometimes I want to talk about the game just with my opponent first, before I join the (public) spectators chat.
I think a few clicks, as required now, is more appropriate because analysis requires huge resources and it would not be desirable to have everyone asking for analysis of every game routinely. That would take away resources from the analysis of games which we particularly want.
I think the question was about skipping the "analyze the game" step, not about requesting the server side analysis (at least that's what I was responding to). Running the server side analysis automatically for all games would definitely be a waste of resources as many players are not interested in it. I have no idea how many but I wouldn't be surprised if only minority of the games had the server side analysis ever performed.
Yes, I was responding to that too, with the argument that the extra "analyze the game" step gives a bit more "formality" and "purpose" to what you are doing. The difficulty with missing that step which I can see is that people might get the idea that requesting analysis is what you must always do at the end of a game. And for the reasons you mention, that would be disastrous for server and volunteer resources.
I was just talking about the little green button (not the full and deep analysis by stockfish). Maybe the green button with a few engine lines so we can quickly check what went wrong, then move on. ^^ I think Chess.com already has a feature like that, so you can quickly see then move on to the next game.

Take care.

Both are done by Stockfish. The difference is that what you are talking about is a local (client side) analysis where the Stockfish engine runs on your device and analyses only current position (or multiple positions when you switch between moves). Server side analysis is running on a lichess server and is run for the whole game, i.e. for positions after each move.

Local analysis can be actually deeper as you can leave the engine running as long (and deep) as you want while server side analysis always runs only to certain depth that you cannot choose.
Yes, I know that ^^ It would just be "faster" in a way that we're lazy and don't want to lunch a full analysis on another page ^^ (less clicks, that's all). And if a public chat would be the problem, how about showing this green button only to both players involved in the game ? Or merging the two pages together, you have your game, then after the game, you just scroll down for a direct analysis (deep or not, it's up to you), or just add the green button on the top right (like on the actual analysis page)
Just a little something that says "you were wrong there, now you can move on". Even one stockfish line would be enough, depth 20 - 25 max (local), you know. Just that little teacher that checks your game over your shoulder. A "very quick" analysis if you prefer.
What's funny is that, it is actually already available for puzzles :p When you're done with a puzzle, the little green Stockfish button appears suddenly with the evaluation bar. This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about, solve a puzzle, see for yourself :) I'm just curious, why not for games ? :)
